My second Randy Wayne White book - I love his writing but not so sure about Hannah Smith. I was hoping for more of a China Bayles or Stephanie Plum character - and Hannah missed the mark. I wanted more thinking from her - not just reacting. This was a quick read - but too many loose ends. Why is Joel Rancer "poison" according to Birdy's friend? Why did Crystal kill her mother? Why did the pit bulls respond to Spooner - if they were Pinky's dogs?
Why isn't Dr. Candor being charged with assault - or attempted murder?
And on a side note - the stereotypical representation of pit bulls as being aggressive unless their owner is around was ridiculous.

Look, mother-fucker. I can put up with your sloppy writing and poor character development. But what I will not put up with is your trashy and lazy denigration of the pit bull breed as dangerous and vicious. You very easily could have just said "mutt" but nope, you thought it okay to specifically name these dogs as pit bulls.
And here is the thing: if you had called the dogs mutts, you might have actually done some real writing and described them and what not. And yeah, you took the easy way out because by golly, all us readers just know that pit bulls are dangerous, right?
So, yeah. Bailing on this book, this series, and this author with a very solemn fuck you, pit bulls are delightful creatures.
