3 .5 stars ⭐️What a shame - what started off as a really excellent fast paced story , fun and really quite gory in places , 3/4 of the way through it just became so boring I lost interest and couldn’t wait for it to end !
Very much a product of its time with the outrageous sexism .

Disappointing to say the least .

It's exactly what you'd want out of a book about a ravenous hoard of mutated cockroaches infesting an island off of the New England coast.

This is a re-read for me and damn what a re-read.

This is a lot better than I remembered and deserves a lot more praise for some surprisingly compelling character work.

The roaches pull no punches and neither does Douglas.

Death and despair are expounded upon with an almost poetic prose.

Will definitely read this one a third time eventually!
