Now I know why I liked the book before.

I tried several times to get into the Artemis Fowl series and just struggled to do so. I’m not fully sure why; I think partially the snarky sense of humor was off-putting to me when I wasn’t prepped for it. (Again... not being in the right mood for a specific series!

Pretty good. 4 stars because it seems very kid-oriented. The drawings are awesome, even if the characters are not how I imagined them in my mind (except perhaps for Artemis, and Butler).

I found this on my shelves during my great comic reorganization, and hadn't read it so blew through it pretty quickly this morning. I was surprised because I thought Artemis Fowl was a different sort of character, or that this book was about something else! I was not expecting him to be a villain, or for there to be supernatural and fantasy elements in his world. I thought it was like, a super genius and the setting was more like Spy Kids.

Given this new information, however, I have to say, Artemis Fowl kinda sucks. He's a smug little a*hole of a child who is treated like an adult because he's "so smart", he only cares about himself, and money and is really rude to his mom who has mental health issues, and he basically kidnaps and tortures a being of another world in hopes to get rich. I was NOT rooting for him in the book, so it extra sucked that he kinda got everything he wanted, outsmarted everyone, and got away with it? Like, super unsatisfying ending, dude. He learns no lessons and has zero consequences for being a jerk. Not what I would want my kid to read, honestly, from a children's or YA novel.

I know this was a novel first, and then a movie, and then this short comic is like the movie tie=in, so I'm not certain if the books have more going on for him or a different plot, but I don't think I'll bother checking it out. Also, I'm probably going to donate this to a little free library somewhere, if I don't feel too guilty about leaving basically propaganda for being a selfish prick where anyone can grab it. :/

As a huge lover of the Artemis Fowl series, I was disappointed with this graphic novel. I didn't really love the illustrations, and while I am NOT by any means an expert in comics/graphic novels, I do believe part of the allure to them is the drawings. Especially if they are recreations of existing novels. The story was familiar, and of course I enjoyed that part, but overall I was unimpressed.

A short ‘highlight’ version of the book but tells the story well enough. I dislike the visualisation of artemis though…

O quadrinho me deixou com saudade do livro ❤️.

I might have to reread this series, I forgot how much I loved it! The original book was better, it provided more context and details obviously.
