Doctor Who: Something Borrowed: Sixth Doctor: 50th Anniversary by Richelle Mead

Spritely and fun Sixth Doctor adventure, featuring pterodactyls, Space Vegas, and the Rani. This is the right kind of wackiness, with some good banter between the Doctor and Peri, who also narrates. Six may still be the Doctor I've seen the least of (for good reason) but I am glad he can be redeemed in EU-type media.

As will all, or at least most, of these novel I base my star rating purely on enjoyment level. In total I really enjoyed this novella, it was a fun and interesting story. I liked how right off the bat stuff was happening and not just waiting 10/15 pages before anything starts to progress like some of the previous novellas.
All in all I enjoyed the story and I'm looking forward to reading the remaining novellas.

I loved this little story, especially Peri, based on this I think I would enjoy Peri in the TV series as well. The plot was a little predictable after a while, which let it down, but other than that it was good.

I liked this one! It's basically the closest to a TV episode of any of the anniversary shorts up to this point - most of it is dialogue, and you can basically imagine what it would have looked like as part of a mythical 1986 season. Mead recreates the voices of the sixth Doctor (easy) and Peri (harder) quite well, and gives the latter the first-person perspective, which I appreciated. Just a fun fannish story.

I'm not super familiar with Six, but other readers said Mead got it spot on so I shall believe them. This was another fun short. I loved learning about this forgotten Who villian, the Rani. They need to reintroduce her in the new series. Even tho I like the delightfully evil Missy, it might have made more sense to have Rani instead of a female Master. It'd be nice to have a villian other than the Daleks for once.

On the bright side, the Sixth Doctor and Perri feel fairly true to their TV counterparts. And the story is mostly fun in its own right. But it’s also kind of bland. Using the Rani makes for a nice change of pace, but the story doesn’t really do anything with her, her plan, or the rest of the supporting cast. And so, it ends up feeling rather generic. Not terrible by any stretch of the imagination, but nothing to write home about either.

Meh. I have nothing to say about this one. Probably isn't the writer's fault; Six just does nothing for me.
