I enjoyed the premise and the style of this book, but a few of the dukes sexual proclivities aren't for me.
Specifically the his reaction to and discussions of Patience's breasts and her production of milk.
As I don't find that sexually intriguing, those scenes pulled me out of the story on the regular. I look forward to the next book moving on to another couple.

I very much enjoyed the narrator's choices for the audiobook.

A lot of people said the same thing I was going to say about the synopsis and cover setting the actual book's expectation too high (I really do love the cover, it's such a refresher from the stiff live action models you'd typically see on a historical romance). I also didn't love any of the characters except maybe jemina and even then it wasnt love, I was just the most fond of her. It's an OK book.

The plot was overly convoluted and drowning in irrelevant details. It was never clear whether the main characters liked each other or not and that meant that the characters’ motivations were never clear to the reader.

This book is grossly ableist. Like blatantly & boldly. Talking about disabled bodies as weak, disgusting, and undeserving of love (even if he gets the girl in the end) is harmful. It’s not a great take & im not going to read a whole book where someone has to come to terms with the fact that they hate their disabled body. I understand this character needed to process his feelings but the way it plays out on page is not it.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable and interesting book. Well written and interesting, I love the world Vanessa Riley has brought to life - I’m most excited for book 2 and 3!

Bahni Turpin narrated this story beautifully.
