Azia isn't the only descendant suddenly dealing with the return of a curse! Blaise is about to have her world turned upside down!

There is a lot of story packed into this season, and things move quickly. The second book leaned more towards romance than adventure, but stayed clean. That said, Blaise does some serious growing up as she starts to recognize some of the forces in both the worlds she is now part of and tries to find her place. She is learning who her true friends are and discovering enemies. I liked how it had frequent nods to traditional Little Mermaid stories but remains its own original tale.

Book 3 dives in from the perilous situation that book 2 ended with, to a HUGE reveal (that we all suspected based on some info dropped earlier but maybe not quite this way) to a surprising amount of growing up by our young protagonist who is firmly taking things into her own hands thank you very much. This book barely stopped to take a breath. Alliances and sympathies are shifting, emotions are high, and there are still some MAJOR mysteries to be solved, questions to be answered, and conflicts to be resolved.

The season was a high octane ride since the beginning and book 4 does not disappoint! Lots of adventure, twists and surprises. Again, it was A LOT of story for a short book. It was nice to see the King and Queen involved as well! It was a pleasant changes from the ubiquitous absentee or just horrible parents in books. I have a tiny quibble with the fight scenes being rather unrealistic, especially the conceit that someone who just picked up a weapon has any chance of using it effectively, but that seems to be common in this type of fantasy.

Fish's real name is revealed - we can only hope he will have more luck in love than his namesake. The immediate situations were resolved, but much like Azia's story, there is still much left unanswered. Not a cliffhanger, but building toward the larger arc that spans the year worth of stories in this set of books. Want to know what comes next? Look for Castiel.
