first of all, i loooove seeing bisayan rep !!!! like yes seeing filipinos in media is awesome but when i see characters who aren’t tagalog/manileños my heart grows even bigger <33
this was such a lovely book to read. it really brought me back to my childhood thinking about questions of the universe and karma and fate. and i like that it allows kids to broaden their horizons instead of limiting it to a singular answer immediately. it’s just such a cute book <333

I really enjoy how Erin Entrada Kelly writes about friendship and learning to believe in yourself. This was a lovely book.

I don't mean this as shade, but I'm somewhat surprised that this won the Newbery Medal. It was a fun little book, but definitely not as deep or even depressing as some of the other winners are. Still cute. I liked Valencia and Kaori. Virgil was a tiresome main character.
