Yeah it was ok. I didn’t love the way it ended but it’s not a standalone book so I guess that’s why.

TL;DR: Orphan X by Gregg Hurwitz is an intricate thriller that brings together an intense plot, a well-rounded protagonist, and compelling character development. Despite a slow start, the book keeps you engaged with unexpected plot twists. It's the perfect read for fans of high-stakes action and character-driven narratives.

Review:

In my early reading years, I was drawn to the fast-paced action and thrill of the chase that Robert Ludlum’s Bourne series offered. The elaborate action sequences, intimate hand-to-hand combat, and the intriguing idea of a lone wolf challenging the system, all had a significant influence on my taste in books. Reading “Orphan X” by Gregg Hurwitz, I was transported back to that time, with all its adrenaline and intrigue.

The story's driving force is Evan Smoak, a former government assassin who has now dedicated his skills to aiding those who can't help themselves. Smoak is not an instantly likable character, but his complexity and depth make him all the more fascinating as you delve further into the story. It's his growth, however, that truly captivates. The transformation of a solitary man, opening up to let others into his life, is portrayed with a sensitivity that adds a layer of humanity to the thrilling plot.

The plot of Orphan X is a labyrinth of suspense. The narrative is filled with twists and turns that constantly keep you guessing. While some plot developments are expected, others are completely out of the blue, adding to the roller coaster ride that is this book.

Finally, the ending. It's a cliffhanger that, while frustrating for some, leaves you wondering what's next for the protagonist. It's a tantalizing glimpse into the future that might just make you want to pick up the sequel.

In summary, Orphan X is a thrilling and complex narrative that combines action, character development, and suspense in a package that's hard to put down. Despite a slow start, it's a book that only gets better as you read, making it a worthwhile addition to any thriller lover's library.

Noah Smoke was taken form an orphanage at a young age and trained to be a world-class assassin.  Now, he uses his skills to help people that are situations they can't get out of on their own. The Orphan Program is an off-the-book, black ops clandestine assassin program designed to create the perfect intelligence assets.  Even leaves/escapes the program and uses everything he has learned to disappear.  But now. someone is hunting him; they have similar skills and training and exploits Evan's secret identity to eliminate him. This story was Jason Bourne meets Hitman, so if you find those things interesting or entertaining, then this may suit you.  I am definitely interested in reading the rest of this series. I gave this book a solid 3.8 stars.

Read this one after Jordan Peterson interviewed the author. My interest was piqued and I was not disappointed. I especially liked the romance. The contrast between her life and his made the story dynamic, interesting, and different from any other thriller GI Joe type of books
