Neil Gaiman has become the first writer to capture both the Newbery and Carnegie prizes for children's literature with the same book. It deserves them.

A young boy runs away from trouble and ends up in a graveyard, where the, er, inhabitants look after him. Somehow in a few pages you think, "well, sure, of course they would." Then he grows up, with things developing as they ought to from the initial situation. It's all believable, it's often fun, and it's almost unputdownable.

Neil Gaiman's books had always intrigued me, and I've heard of The Graveyard Book multiple times. When I saw it in the library, I decided to borrow it, unaware of what awaited me within its pages. Little did I know that this children's book, to my surprise, is a hidden gem.

Neil Gaiman masterfully wrote this captivating coming-of-age tale with intricate descriptions, boundless imagination, and a touch of eerieness. From the very first sentence, I found myself utterly engrossed, visualizing the story like a motion picture within my mind. The story's allure, the depth of its characters, the skillful dialogue, and the enchanting illustrations enhanced my reading experience. It is no surprise that The Graveyard Book won the Newberry Medal, it is rightfully earned.

I particularly cherished Neil Gaiman's heartfelt acceptance speech, which was included at the book's conclusion. He eloquently wrote about his reasons and inspirations behind the book. It was a nice addition to the book and allowed me to further appreciate this novel. I was touched reading it and now I know that I should read more of his books.

Overall, The Graveyard Book exceeded all of my expectations, earning itself a well-deserved five-star rating. Its captivating storytelling, rich characters, and beautifully written prose make it an absolute must-read for all ages.

Unlike Neil Gaiman's other books, yet also very similar. I don't know if I would read it again or if I would read it 4 more times. Overall, heartwarming but also sad.
