Ugh... I'm so glad I'm done with this book. To be honest with you, this one's so bad that I might actually give that book on my "do-not-read" tag another shot... Just to get this one out of my head. It had an opportunity to be an amazing horror book... ...Then they took that opportunity, stomped up it, ripped it up, fed it to their dog, let nature take its course, then fed it to their dog again. To be clear, what I thought was bad about this book was the protagonist..
Spoiler I mean, you get immortality, and the first things you do are steal someone's crush, go out on a date with said girl, then promptly go out and whine to your family until they get you plane tickets to this remote island, then put a girl's life in danger whilst trying to get bit by a shark to test your immortality... This sounds more like what Scumbag Steve would do if he had immortality, let alone a random teenager...

Not my cup of tea, but junior high boys will eat it up.

On the positive side, the basic plot was interesting. It does a good job of explaining voodoo black magic and exploring what could happen if a teen got involved with it.

Unfortunately, the actions of the characters aren't believable and most of the conversations are strained. It seemed like the author didn't take any time to research how teenagers would have talked or acted in the given situations. The ending was abrupt; I felt like there was one more chapter that didn't get written. Overall, it just felt like there wasn't much effort put into it.

I don't even want to bother explaining why I finished this book and rated it a 1 star... Annoying characters, terrible plot, I only finished it for a readathon.
