Beautifully written and illustrated. I'm definitely going to read this to my kids when I have them.

A colourful fairytale in Satrapi's usual simple style.

Really enjoyed it, but the exclusion of any history or background of the tale was disappointing.

A fairy tale about a merchant's youngest daughter on a quest to bring the man she loves back to life.

Adorable... also funny that I read two books in a row featuring 3 sisters in which one of the main characters was named Rose.

A young woman must go live with a mysterious prince until she accidentally kills him and must save him. Literary folktale.

May 2023. Illustrated Persian fairytale about a young woman who ends up traveling to live with “The Sigh.”

Wasn’t much of a fan of this, I read a couple reviews about how it’s an old fairytale and this modern version fails to get across the nuance and cultural connotations of the original, which is too bad. Glad I picked it up from the library versus buying.

“The Sigh” by Marjane Satrapi.

A little boring, the plot is rushed and doesn't really make sense.

This is clear a Persian fairytale. The structure and clever adventures are cute, but the illustrations are typical of Marjane Satrapi's style, but don't add much to the story. Also, her illustration of the sigh is not visually interesting and the outline around th elips were a poor choice because it seems reminiscent of a bad black lips illustration.

I like the introduction to the fairytale, but the art doesn't add much.

I wouldn't call this a graphic novel, so maybe that's my bad. It was a weird little story.
