Getting weirder and darker, despite the evil exes and the robot fight. Addressing the Ramona head glowing and her leaving at the end. The band basically breaking up and all the members being in weird headspaces: is young Neil suffering depression? Is Stephen a closeted gay man? Kim is my favourite, she seems to be in love with Scott. What will happen to them all? Scott trying to get the cat back was sad af.

I don't know what the actual ending of this story is, or if I am correctly interpreting the events.
I am not routing for a Scott and Ramona happy ending. Gotta read next one before I start forgetting details.

In this one we get to see the twins Kyle and Ken Katayanagi. There was less stuff happening in this one. It was fun to see Scott and Ramona living together and then having disagreements. It sets up the stage for the next ex-boyfriend: Gideon. Again, just unpretentious fun!

Scott Pilgrim Re-Read Day: Volume 5

This volume has gone up in my estimation upon this re-read. I think the main reasoning behind this was that volume 4 was a little bit of a let down, so this really stepped up its game. What worked so well here, was focusing on a smaller cast of characters. I mentioned within my review of Volume 4, that there just seemed to be too many pointless side characters added, however here we revert to basics, and focus on the core group. That being Scott, Romona, Kim, Steven Stills and Knives Chau. There is less clutter and more focus on story and character development.

Also! What I love, love, love is Ramona and Kim's friendship in this book, it really makes me wish we got to see more of that during the series. The pair have excellent banter with each other, and I really think Kim is one of the more underrated characters of the series. Plus, Knives vs Ramona round 2: I love to see it, because I love their chemistry too! I just loved this, and found this volume such a refreshing change of pace.

Also YAY, actual character development for the Exes! Whilst Kyle and Ken Katayanagi may have been defeated somewhat easily by Scott, their presence was felt throughout the book, and they didn't just rock up towards the end like the rest. All in all, a pleasantly fun re-read, which made me appreciate this volume more!

Onto the grande Finale!

Short and to the point. Ramona gets freaked out and bails and Scott's life just kind of falls apart. But, on the upside, Gideon approaches!
