What's Your Favorite Animal? by Eric Carle

I think this is mostly a lot of fun for grown up fans of picture book creators (counting myself among those fans!). But I could also see it being used in a classroom or as a jumping off point for a child's own creativity ... ask them what their favorite animal is and why, maybe have them write a little bio or background story too just like in the book. Art students could identify and discuss the different techniques used in the book and also create their own "pages". Could also be used in children's lit courses when studying picture books, illustrators and technique.

Fourteen popular children's writers/illustrators come together, each to share his/her favorite animal. I loved the eclectic mix of animals, and the descriptions of them made me chuckle.

Sweet and lovely! A ton of amazing illustrators illustrate a page with their favorite animal, and write a little snippet about why its their favorite. This would be a great book to use in an elementary school class to talk about different art styles, or favorite animals, or to use as a writing prompt. Unique and magical -- I'm bringing this to schools to book talk before summer reading!

I loved this collection by Eric Carle. I loved seeing the different authors/illustrators write about their favorite animals in their own style - whether it be a story from their heart, a humorous story or one that is told in their favorite style (poems, verse). Each author also illustrated their favorite animal and I loved seeing their artwork match their story.

Lovely book! What a surprise. Interesting to see how author/illustrators address the same question in so many different ways, both visually and with text. I could see this being a fabulous inspiration to create a classroom collaboration book around a single question. I may just have to use it for that purpose and let the creativity flow.
