Lots of fun, although the author throws in a bunch of new characters for me to care about. She made it work, but I still wished there was more of Percy. Also... his followers are a bit over the top in their loyalty sometimes. They needed to chill.

Despite all the predictability that the Scarlet Pimpernel books have, they are just so much fun. This was no exception where Percy and his group are faced with once again finding creative ways to save people from the guillotine. It’s like a heist movie but with higher stakes.

The Scarlet Pimpernel is just a fun adventure. Appropriate for all ages.

This was a nice enough sequel, though it lacks the tangible adventure of the first one.

[side note: my edition - from Benediction classics - has lots of really annoying typos in it. I wouldn't recommend getting that edition!]

The time I spent reading this book was time well spent: it was quick-paced, full of adventure, and it gave some insights about the workings of the mind of Sir Percy Blakeney. We also get to meet some new members of the league, which is also good.

I can understand the lack of Marguerite, to a point, but I'm not of fan of the way she is presented when we do see her; as a mournful wife sitting alone in her empty house, thinking of nothing but her husband and praying for his return. In "The Scarlet Pimpernel", she was an active character: she took actions and decisions that moved the story forward. I hope that this second (in a chronological, not a publication) order is not the start of a bad trend, where the agency of Marguerite Blakeney, née St-Just, completely disappears.
