Oh my god
Well that was a whole new level of disturbing. Chris Carter you have out done yourself for sure.
As always the suspense and eerie atmosphere was there and combined with the god-tier writing that Chris provides it made for one excellent book.
A short break is required but best believe I will be starting on his new book soon. (Waterstones definitely want me to, received it two days early)

I was disappointed with this one, particularly after what is an excellent, unnerving first chapter that set a tone the rest of the book didn't match up to. The book felt like torture p*rn with a level of violence described in unnecessary detail. The story of who the killer in was daft and unbelievable in terms of their motive and the level of violence meted out in service of it. Wouldn't read again.

My Rating: 2⭐️⭐️ with a heavy heart - ticked very few boxes BARELY THERE!!

Trigger Warning - Graphic Explicit Violence and Suicide

Robert Hunter is back for his 12th round and has he finally met his match?

‘Do you believe in the Devil, Detective?’ The officer at the end of the line asks him as he calls him and his team into the worst crime scene he’s ever attended.

Robert and Carlos attend the scene and are horrified by what they see, which is no mean feat given what they deal with on a daily basis. To top this off there is a poem left inside the victim. Soon the body count rises and with no consistency to the kills, different methods and signatures and levels of violence unsettles the team.

The thing that stays the same is a new line of the poem is left at each crime scene. Can Robert race the clock and find this killer before they escalate out of control??

Right… first up let’s put it out there again, this book is violent… I mean wicked, graphic, explicit violence. Full on descriptions of torture and injuries. If you have found some of Carter’s other books ‘a bit much’ be warned. ⚠️

I can handle the violence and I have come to expect it but even for me this was a bit much. I cringed and squirmed and not in a good way when the level of brutality was described. It was just too much - I think it was for pure shock factor but it got so hard to read. By all means if this is your thing then dive in…
