this book was SUCH a good introduction to Lisa Kleypas!

where Tessa Dare brought more heat and a more modern shape to her historical romance (think: final act breakups), Lisa Kleypas brings the swoon and packs a hefty punch!

Annabelle and Simon were such a delight - two people who clearly loved each other even if neither could bear to admit it. Simon was a total simp, and Annabelle the kind of woman who doesn't subscribe to the belief that men know best.

i've never met a fictional Simon i haven't liked, and Simon Hunt is no exception. especially every time he called her sweetheart or sweet, BEFORE THEY WERE EVEN ENGAGED

We love a man who knows how to lean in a doorway!

I really enjoyed the will-they-won’t-they between Annabelle and Simon, but the back half of the novel really fizzled for me. I still will read the next one because I’m intrigued by the interconnecting storylines of each wallflower!

I think I enjoyed this? I really liked Simon (mainly bc I love a pining man) but Annabelle was so shallow for most of the book that I never ended up connecting with her. The side characters were fun, especially the wallflowers and Jeremy, so I do look forward to reading more in this series. I also really appreciated that there was no third act breakup.

This book is what made me really get into HR.

Annabelle is beautiful but without a dowry- so no great prospects of marrying into the aristocracy she wants to join. Many want her for a mistress though. Enter Simon, who is not aristocracy, but rich enough to mingle with them.

Annabelle is smart, beautiful, strong-wlled and stubborn. But she's also snobby, as a result of dreaming all her life of joining the "elite". Simon has risen his social status through smart investments and know that the time of the aristocracy is slowly fading and business men like him are accumulating more power. He challenges everything Annabelle thought she knew, including her view of society and him, and in the process, they both become better people.

Spoiler This book is different in the respect that they characters build on their relationship little by little and realize their love for one another mostly AFTER they get married. Also, great ending.
