Four words: pert breasts, proud fanny
One more word: misogyny 
Chalk full of boring dialogue, long meandering moralistic inner descriptions and two dimensional characters. The underlying idea? Good. Execution? Boring.

At this point my list of favorite literary quotes is overwhelmingly Steinbeck. He's a master both of pithy nuggets of wisdom and of storytelling.
