Interesting, engaging, and thoughtful. Anyone who works with process, relationships, groupwork, and communities should enjoy this. Other reviews here disdain the style and the content, but I found it readable and original. The authors are pretty upfront about what the book is and isn't, so there's no surprise as to the structure or ambitions of the book. Others have called it "unbearably hipster," but I think that just means "thoughtful" and "self-aware."

A book about people, theatre, improvisation and human nature. Really interesting from a human interaction perspective. Glouberman's stories do unravel a bit as the book goes on, and I recall some repetition going on, but it's not long enough to get boring. Some practical lessons from somebody who loves experimenting with audiences.

I think I liked this because I live in Toronto and do a lot of workshops in my job. A little repetitive and not all too deep but made me want to do more fun/interesting/silly things with my time. Good new years read.

This book comprises 72 short pieces on whatever Misha Glouberman finds interesting. About half of these are observations from the improvisation and charades classes that he teaches, while others range from his temporary role as a community organiser trying to get a bar in his neighbourhood to lower its volume, to his attempts to quit smoking and, as the title suggests, how to place chairs optimally for different types of social events. Altogether a light and enjoyable read with several interesting anecdotes, but nothing really memorable.
