I had the good fortune to be one of Dr. Hopler's students. In this book you'll find every lesson he tried to teach his students writ large in his prose. You'll also find the passion and pain of a man coming to grips with losing his life. I hope you, whoever you are, love this book as much as I do.

What a stunning and excellent group of poems, grappling with our inevitable mortality. Sad to hear that the poet passed away in 2022. My favorite poem, called "imaginary photograph sunset":

if the sky were whiskey i'd shoot the man who watered it down.

Dr. Hopler taught me to love the musicality of language and a good exclamation point or two in a poem. thanks for giving us this; we miss you down here 🫶
