I received an advanced copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

San Cicaro is weird. It has the most mysteries and inexplicable events in the world. Rookie reporter, San Cicaro born and raised, Olivia walks into her first proper interview knowing better than to jump at wild rumours.

Using the interviews anecdotes Beasts' editor Jenn Cavanaugh cleverly weaves Jonathan Ward, James Fadeley and A. R. Aston's short stories into premium nightmare fuel. The mystery is never fully uncovered as the darkness always lurks in the shadows like the carnivorous plants or many pelts, other stories are reminiscent of Hitchcock's the Birds or positively Kafkaesque. Mind bending, haunting and guaranteed to linger The Beasts of San Cicaro is an excellent indie book that deserves your attention.
