A glorious combination of Agatha Christie, Groundhog Day and The Good Place. I loved this book. It's riveting. It's got that exquisite ambiance of high society in the ~1900 timeframe with a mystical mystery on top of a whodunnit. Not predictable either. The ending is satisfying too. Highly recommend to everyone!

A whodunit of sorts with a compelling Groundhog Day conceit (and more that I don't want to spoil). Turton does a nice job of making you feel as confused and helpless as the main character at the beginning, then slowly pulls back the layers and reveals the rules of this engagement as you repeat the day's events again and again through the eyes of the various guests. Thankfully, the repetition never feels tedious, as you're approaching things with a very different perspective and more knowledge than you had previously, and that often makes a world of a difference.

I couldn’t get into it because I found it really confusing and couldn’t keep up with all the characters

3.5 stars.

Great concept and could've been a “5 star” rating but for a weak beginning and disappointing ending.

17% into the Kindle version and I was about to abandon it but decided to give it another few chapters and I was glad that I did. I found the language in the opening chapters stiflingly florid – as if it were a poor Jane Austen imitation, fortunately this diminished as the novel progressed.

Stuart Turton has a written complex and very clever plot involving time-travelling and body-swapping along with some great character development (especially the ones who were capable of self-reflection). I think that it was because the story was so compelling, the reader so invested in the outcome and the solving of the mystery that the ending was such a disappointment to me although I would not let this stop me from recommending this book to others.

It was confusing and I couldn’t get into it. I didn’t like the audiobook narrator.

A Groundhog Day type murder mystery with a twist. This book is beautifully written. It’s masterfully organized with each detail being an important part of the story. Nothing was superfluous.

Evelyn Hardcastle is murdered every night at 11 pm and our main character, Aiden, must solve who did it. But here’s the fun part, he witnesses the same day as a different person each time.

The ending was a turn of events that I did not see coming and I absolutely loved it! I am now a Stuart Turton fan.
