Claudie travels with her mom to visit her relatives in Georgia, then returns to Harlem and
saves the boarding house
.

I just don't think these two book arcs are enough to get you into the world and the history.
The illustrations are cool and different.

This is written in a way that 8 year olds can learn about history without being overwhelmed the horrors of it.
