I definitely did not enjoy this as much as the series

I think it’s really unclear when in the timeline this happens, but I’m now realizing it’s meant to be set during book 1

I thought for a little that it might be after the entire series, but that doesn’t really make sense

Deciding for myself that the rivening is the rifting — makes sense for there to be inconsistent terminology in-world

She could’ve given us the story of when Hoa pissed off an orogene so bad they trapped him in an obelisk instead

Jemisin's prose pulls you in like a sinkhole. It gave me the urge to go back to the Broken Earth trilogy; this story is that good.

Definitely recommend readers to read this first, if at all curious about the Broken Earth trilogy. If this is at all entertaining, Broken Earth will more than meet expectations.
