3.5 really.

A murder mystery less concerned with finding a killer and more interested in revealing the devastation the unsolved case has on the victim's family and classmates.

The author provides enough hints for the reader to discern the culprits of the original and subsequent crime, but no fixed solution is presented. No reasoning or explanation is ever offered. Just grief , regret and remorse and how they poisoned the lives of those connected to the case.

Those accused. The detective who wants an arrest more than the truth. A sister desperate to avenge, become and then ultimately replace her dead sister. The classroom rival who despised the victim's beauty and was eventually driven mad and then to God about her dark secret. The boy accused who's life took a sour turn. The classroom observer who knew the victim, and her sister, but watches on as a neutral observer, a stand in for the audience themselves.

It loses a few stars because the story was so short, we were cut off by the author just as we were getting to know the 3 women narrating this tale of misery.

This is a story about loss, grief and survivor's guilt. We follow the story of a girl who investigates her sister's murder trying to find herself, ways to move on and live after her sister's death. She watches her mother grieve her sister and finds solace and friendship in one of the accused.

The writing is easy to read, the story is interesting, there are two POVs and they are both interesting in the way that they portray each of the character's psychology and perception.

I read this very quickly - not because it enthralled me but because I needed it to be over. The writing is poor and disjointed, and those chapters speaking with the Doctor made this go from 2 stars to 1.
