I've always wanted to be given an ARC of a book to review. And I did read an ARC of this book, but only because I stumbled upon it, left in a Value Village for 2.99. With Peach Pit playing in my headphones, I added it to the pile. This book was the last thing I bought from the East Hastings Value Village before it burnt down.
The reason I love this book is due to the way in which I found it. A sliver of Vancouver life, niche yet unoriginal, specific yet vague. Like a mirror, that at first glance you thought was a window. Its scope of queer identity is precise, one that narrates feelings you didn't know had a name. And perhaps some still don't, and exist only under the streetlights on Davie.

So this book came into my lyfe <3
Finally, poetry that isn't pretentious or superfluous. Daniel's poems are beautifully and at times hauntingly familiar, but always comforting—reminding you that there is someone out there speaking to the nuances in the lives of young gay men. Feeling very lucky to have read Daniel's words.

What strikes me the most about these poems, is how easily Zomparelli can shift between cheek and guile, with neither under-cutting the other.
The full vibrant nature of Davie Street is on display; this is a truly beautiful ode to the neighbourhood.
