a bit too similar to a secret history, unfortunately. most of the characters felt almost cookie cutter in similarity. however i did enjoy the new topic of theatre and shakespeare, it was very dramatic and fun with lots of foreshadowing which is exactly what i love in dark academia books. the second half of the book felt more unique and the ending was heartbreaking!!
the gasp i gasped when we found out james was alive😠desperate to know if oliver decided to abandon meredith yet again or go find his first lover ugh i was rooting for james x oliver the entire book
Moderate: Domestic abuse
Minor: Eating disorder, Suicide, and Addiction

i don’t know when and if i will ever have the words to fully describe what reading this book felt like.
i’ve been wanting to read this literally since it came out, but through years of simply never reading much i didnt end up coming around to it until now, and i’m almost thankful, who knows if i would’ve been able to appreciate it this much otherwise.
at first when i started reading i had some apprehension since i hate first person narrators, but it’s so well done that it just kind of, faded into the background, in a way? and it definitely worked WELL for this book.
i don’t even know how to begin talking about the characters - at first i saw them as a bit overdrawn, kind of like caricatures, but the more you got to know them and saw behind the role they were playing the more you grew to love each and every one of them.
the end was, of course, heart wrenching, and i don’t even want to think of any theories or anything, because i think i will never know peace again if i do. all i can say is that i love oliver and i love james and my heart is so broken for them that it physically hurts.
if i could give 10 stars i would.
