this book, in the end, disappointed me. it has several storylines going on - much like a movie or an episode of law and order.

there is the brazen newspaper editor (his wife), the rookie reporter (her mentor), a air force pilot (her wing man), will holmes ("the chair") and hoseyn (good or bad engineer?).

all of these stories interweave, but add up to nothing. i felt the plot was moving towards a climactic ending, but it only disappointed. it took me longer than normal to read this book, i think because there are too many characters and too many distractions, but not enough story. there's not a clear ending to anyone's story.

The reviews of this book are not stellar but I really wanted to read it anyway. It's true that you can't really figure out what's going on (many people wondering "is it just confusing or am I dumb?"), and the ending is less than satisfying. Still - weirdly - I found it a pretty enjoyable read and I'm not sorry I read it.
