Although Katz's book Running to the Mountain wasn't my absolutely favorite book, it did inspire me to get this book out of the library. I sat down this evening to start the book and ended up finishing it. This was excellent.

All dogs, like people have their own personalities. Julius and Stanley had been Katz's dogs for awhile. He and they had adapted to each other. For reasons that only an animal lover might understand, Katz decided he needed a third dog - Devon. Add another personality to the mix.

This book is not about Marley, or Lassie or Rin-Tin-Tin. But like those stories it is a well told tale that will hold your interest.

Wanted to love it but did not. His next book while ending more sadly was better.

A great memoir for any dog lover. Devon the boarder collie surely is a holy terror.

Being a dog-lover, I can never resist a story about man's best friend. This is a very heart-warming story that while focuses mainly on the clash between wild and calm has some good messages about real friendship and finding yourself. [author: Jon Katz] seemed to put a lot of heart into this story and it shows.
