No Rating, this did not capture my attention and became back ground noise for a few hours. No opinion truly.

Solid if not especially innovative. I love Bujold's Vorkosigan books dearly, and was kind of hoping for the same kind of madcap adventure, but it was not to be. This book is largely setup, though, so maybe there will be more of that once the series gets rolling. Quick read as it's only novella length.

As a fan of the Miles Vorkosigan stories I've had this book in my "to read" pile for a while now. I wish I had picked it up sooner!

I thoroughly enjoyed this other realm created by Bujold and am looking forward to continuing the series. It has a similar feel to the Vorkosigan books, just cast in a different era!

sometimes you just want to read about a good-natured truant pretty boy who completely takes it in stride that he's just been possessed by a 200-year old demon that's technically also a conglomeration of the ten dead women, lion and horse it previously possessed.

these novellas have been on my radar for YEARS and I really should have started them earlier. I'd previously read both Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls that take place in the same world so I was already familiar with the lore of the Five Gods, but you really don't need to have any prior knowledge to read these novellas! It's very much it's own adventure and I feel like even new readers will have fun with this. penric and his relationship with desdemona is too entertaining so far.
