Craft tackles so much in this book with such precision that he makes it look downright easy. Jordan’s story will resonate with any middle-schooler that picks this book up. Jordan’s story—and the challenges he faces not only as a new kid at school but specifically as a Black boy—is brilliantly executed through both text and illustration. The references to other texts, movies, and shows really heightens the experience as well and helps to create a really fleshed out world. Absolutely essential reading!
