I'm sure there are thousands of folks who watched the first season of The Witcher on Netflix and quickly decided to read the book series. I am among those people. I've also been chipping away at my brother's copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on my PlayStation 4 in my spare time, but at work I've been chipping away at this.

Upon realizing this was not, in fact the first Witcher novel but instead the first Witcher collection of short stories, all of which I just just seen in the Netflix show, I nearly bailed to instead read the first novel, but I decided to stick with it.

Despite the fact that I knew how each story would go, I still enjoyed it. I think it's rare for something like this to have as many different canons as this franchise now does, what with there being games, books, and now a TV show, so it was fun to see how the names changed, the places where the characters were different or the same, etc.

This was a fun look at where Netflix drew so much inspiration for the show and I'll be excited read the rest when I can!

I’m not typically a fan of short story prequels, especially before I’m introduced to the story, but I felt like it really eased into the story that will start in Blood of Elves. I watched the Witcher season one, so some of this was familiar, but I enjoyed the extra detail that went into the books. I’m excited to keep reading this series.

Similar to the show so not many surprises. But I did enjoy it and am curious to keep reading, especially since I stopped watching the show after season 2.
