It’s a fantasy/paranormal thriller with a touch of horror. For a good chunk of the book you were made to believe one away until something finally happens and confirms it. I think I would’ve like the ambiguity of it and I almost wish other “outsider” characters weren’t in the know. The book obviously was never going to go in that direction but it’s just something I thought about if I wrote something similar. I also almost wished that it had a different ending like maybe the character didn’t have to do the same actions as her grandmother but instead showed compassion and maybe that could’ve resolved the issue. Idk, it’s a YA book about how the mistakes of your ancestors can follow you. Like she’s being punished.

Also would like to say the main character was annoying for a good portion of the book. Super bratty and angsty. Normally I don’t have a problem with main characters like this but at least they had character and personality development. She was so flat, sorry.

i really enjoyed this book. great scene setting, MC that is everything that comes with being 15 (largely not self aware, petulant, petty, etc) but in a way that feels very real and is easy to empathize. really handles the complicated relationships with family and friends well, very interesting plot w some little twists that are expected but still fun. lagged in a few places but loved the ending and overall just really enjoyable.
