Completely fascinating all the way through. Faster placed than Imperium. Before reading this book I must say I excused Caesar a lot more. He's my favorite historical figure and of course it was never for moral reasons (I was fascinated by other things, such as his cleverness and victories) this telling made more seriously consider just how much he contributed to the death of the Republic. And how enraging (rightfully so) that must have been for those who valued the law.
Now, this isn't Caesar's story and I'm not making the review all about him. Haha but that's how important he is to Cicero's story. Following Cicero gives a different perspective on attitudes and politics of the Republic. Cicero wanted to uphold the law, Caesar wanted to make it his own.
And I guess it hit me more than it ever had, reading the book. And I actually felt sympathetic for Cicero.
