I think in many cases the value of the stories in these collections must have been in relation to the field at the time they were written. A more coherent ordering, or even a contextualising paragraph before each story or author, might have drawn this out. As it was, it felt more like a random assortment pulled from Protect Gutenberg - with noticeable typographical issues, although that may have been the fault of the e-book I got from my local library.

DID NOT FINISH

I thought I would get through this entire thing, but that's not happening. I'll still read some of the individual stories in here down the line and log them separately, but there's just too much mid in here.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft (August 20, 1890 – March 15, 1937) was an American writer of weird and horror fiction, who is known for his creation of what became the Cthulhu Mythos. Virtually unknown and only published in pulp magazines before he died in poverty, he is now regarded as one of the most significant 20th-century authors of supernatural horror fiction.

This was a long one, holy shit. Very mixed bunch. Hated some, loved others.

It may have taken me ~10 months, but I consider it a worthwhile investment of my reading time. Below I've included (mostly for my own reference) my 1-5 rating of each story. You will notice a general trend whereby the later works have a propensity for earning a greater rating. This being the case despite my general preference for Lovecraft's stories in short format, as opposed to longer novella pieces, I believe is illustrative of his increased storytelling skill over time and his refinement of those elements which make a story 'Lovecraftian'.

Some great stories, some good stories, and a few boring stories make up most of the collection by H.P. Lovecraft. I liked the stories that involved a character and were not just a narrator describing stuff. If i had any issue with his works it would be he often went off on a lot of over description of some things at times, which isn't completely bad because it does create a vivid world for the stories.

Overall I enjoyed H.P. Lovecraft's work. Glad i finally was able to give it all a read.
