Okay, so I mostly read this at work, which is kinda fun. Also, this was really good. Like, more like 4.5 stars. Not quite 5 stars, but almost. This absolutely reaffirms my decision to read anything by Mira Grant (and Seanan McGuire) -- it's always a good, of potentially heartbreaking, time.

Also, it was super convenient timing to start reading this right before Rise was released. I didn't plan it that way; I didn't even realize Rise was coming out. Weird, huh?

I like how all the threads come together in this one.

Normally I find novellas frustrating, but this was exactly the right length for the amount of story there was. Very fun part of this universe.

An entertaining addition to the Newsflesh universe. Once again, Grant knocks it out of the park with a tight, focused novella about one of my favorite characters, Dr. Abbey and her crew of outlaw scientists. Nice tie-ins to characters and events in the main series are littered throughout but a knowledge of the main series is not necessary (although why wouldn't you have read the main series!?) because the main points of the universe are explained.
My only gripe is that it ended too soon for me. I can't wait for another full length novel from here but for now, I will have to settle for her short stories and novellas.

All of Mira Grant's zombie stuff is fun. This book was fun. It wasn't my favorite, though. It was fast-paced and exciting, but the "final battle" of the book felt much, much too short. I would've preferred approximately 15% less build-up, or 15% more writing detailing the events of the climax. Either way, the book was a quick, enjoyable read.

A zombie apocalypse amuse bouche, with essentially no zombies, this is one of a series of Grant's short fiction pieces in the NewsFlesh world. It is my opinion that it is best to read this after the novels, but mostly because for me this was more of a homecoming, tying together some threads and giving us a little more light in dark corners.
