Un poco rancio sobre todo porque son leyendas que recopiló un señor británico colonizador y porque hubo cero esfuerzo por que tuvieran un mínimo de estilo. Se me ha hecho largo.

The introduction by Jacobs is fairly interesting, as he speculates on the similarity between the tales in this collection and those of other European-focused collections. He proposes that India is the origin of many of these tales, and, while I can't attest to the actual provenance, I was glad he didn't just throw out the idea that they were transplanted from Europe.

Overall, it's an...okay collection. It really does sound mostly like the most popular of fairy tales--such as Cinderella--were plopped down in a new setting. I think if you're looking for authentic Indian stories, this isn't a good source, but it's fairly entertaining.

I listened to a free audio production from Librivox.

Güzeldi masal okumayı sevenler zevk alacaktır. Hint kültürünü öğrenme bakımından da önemli bence. Bir iki masalda sanki kopukluk vardı. Çoğu masaldaki reenkarnasyon atıfı hoştu. İlginç kültürleri var.

I don't have a lot of thoughts on this. I find it interesting to read fairy tales from different cultures, even if I don't always have the most fun with it (largely because most fairy tales are older and fall back on a lot of uncomfortable tropes). None of these were particularly fun for me but it was intriguing to read nonetheless.

Don't really know if this is the exact version I read, but I enjoyed the historical notes given to explain the origins and how these stories were taken all over the world and reproduced in various cultures.

Not a bad collection. The tales could be rather episodic, but certainly rang true as fairy tales with their litanies of brave princes, magical horses, lovely princesses, abusive kings, hidden treasures, and charmed objects.

An edition with John Batten's illustrations is recommended.

Again, how do you go about rating a collection of traditional folk and fairy tales? How does one rate the roots of culture?

I really liked reading the Indian versions of the same type fairy tales I grew up with in the States.
