If half-star ratings were possible, I would have rated this book 2.5 stars. Since the premise of the murder itself wasnt terrible, I've decided to settle for 3 stars instead.
Arthur Hastings is insufferable; he serves as a terrible narrator, failing to respect or support Poirot in any meaningful way, and his behavior is often quite repugnant. His professions of love for "Cinderella," whom he simultaneously refers to as a child, either have not aged well or were always in poor taste. Regarding "Cinderella," Hastings repeatedly obstructs the resolution of the murder, prolonging the narrative and making the reading experience far more frustrating than necessary. His (and Girauds) constant errors could have been an amusing twist if used sparingly, but they become tiresome after the umpteenth use. Poirot's brilliance in deduction stands on its own and does not require the crutch of such repetitive plot devices.

Took me about a week and a half to finish listening to this on Phoebe Reads A Mystery.

I enjoy listening about humble and benevolent detectives like Hercule Poirot narrated in the point of view of the very endearingly obnoxious Hastings.

Murder on the Links is a solid showing in the Poirot mystery series but featured some of the broader jumps in logic from Poirot. Hastings was equally confusing in his own development, with his infatuation for conveniently attractive women being a major crux of the plot. Overall, an interesting concept that falls slightly flat in execution but rebounds on its interesting, if not limited, exploration of the "old guard vs. the young hotshot" concept.

Not one of her tighter plots but it was her first. Hastings is forever girl crazy, worse than a teenager. Poirot *climbs a tree* in this one.
