I don’t actively seek out BDSM, too many times I run into YKINMK and end up DNFing - but I really enjoy Rebekah Weatherspoon’s writing style so I grabbed the Fit Trilogy after she mentioned it on Twitter.

At less than 2 hours, this novella is a quick, sexy & slightly kinky easy read. I felt the “setting the stage” for Grant & Violet to merge his personal fitness & submissive training was a little awkward, but once it was established, I enjoyed this one. I especially loved the banter between Grant & Vi. While Vi seeks out Grant to lose weight and get healthy, it was obvious that no one was focusing negatively on weight/size. There’s a hiccup in the relationship that gets resolved fairly quickly. Ending feels more HFN than HEA, but I’m hoping we’ll get to see more Grant & Vi in Armando’s book, Tamed.

A sexy dash of awesomesauce.

This short story had all the makings of what keeps me up reading for half the night (it's freaking 3:32 a.m. as I type this). It was equal parts titillating (its male protagonist was THE sexiest), funny, and sweet. Did I mention that this story is hella sexy? Ummm, yeah. It's got that down pat. But it also flowed so well, with descriptive words which painted a perfect picture in my mind's eye. I was captivated from the get-go and didn't put it down until I was 100% done.

I don't give 5-star reviews lightly; I'm actually quite stingy with them. But I really, really enjoyed this one and I'm already looking forward to reading the next story in this trilogy.

Eh.

It was kind of sweet, but the (inevitable) part (of any romance novel) where everything goes to shit was ... really forced. And then the resolution was really fast.

But that's probably because it is a short. And that's probably why shorts raaaaaaarely work for me, and romance shorts are even less likely to work for me. But I had heard good things and wanted to give it a whirl.

I didn’t feel the chemistry between the MCs at all.

Enjoyed this brief story of an overweight Asian-American reality-food show producer and the white male dom trainer who finds himself using sexual rewards as incentive to help his client lose weight. But I wish Weatherspoon had written more; there's great stuff here (the scene where Grant first suggests a dom/sub relationship with Violet is a particular hoot!), but not nearly enough to make for a fully-developed story or novel.

I was reluctant to read this because I thought it would be about intentional weight loss (spoiler: it is) which I find boring to read about. I tried it because various thin friends of mine insisted that it was very body positive (they’re wrong)

I didn’t like:
Violet getting humiliated at a workout boot camp (twice)
Grant evaluating Violet’s fitness level just by looking at a photo of her and seeing she was fat.
Violet constantly talking about her weight loss goals and how horrible she was for eating frozen yogurt and bbq pork.
The cognitive dissonance of Grant agreeing with Violet’s weight loss goals while thinking she was hot
All the healthism

I liked:
Violet and Grant being excellent at their respective jobs
The banter
Grant’s sex positive friends/colleagues
The instalove which is actually totally believable, partly because
Grant is given a lot of layers

I found selfish Faye’s complicated friendship with Violet messy and real and filled with the kind of meanness that often happens in friendships of convenience between fat and thin women, or white women and BIPOC. I wanted to like it, but I was mad there was zero accountability for Faye.

I do think this would be a good companion read for someone starting a new diet because that was such a big focus of the book.

Too fitness focused, and weight loss focused. Not realistic.
