I was sorry to see Olive's Elsewhere adventures come to an end, but West handles this beautifully. Still Life (the fifth and final in the series) contains the same sort of wry humor, surprising twists, and good, spooky fun that readers of these books have come to appreciate.

Good end to a great nostalgic series for me.

This book is probably one of my least favourites in the series. I'm not exactly sure why but it's different than the rest. Maybe it's because it's the last and the ending is actually happy and doesn't end with cliff-hangers. But I do know that I DON'T LIKE HOW MEAN IT IS. In one of the last chapters when Haratio "dies" I CRIED but NOOOOO HE DIDN'T ACTUALLY DIE. I'm happy that he didn't die 100% but DID YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT A TRICK??! Now I know I know it's kinda my fault that I fell for it since well Haratio is a witch's apprentice that's over 100 years old and kinda immortal BUT STILL

One thing that I love in the book is there's a new character named Vanessa :D BUT I'm mad that she was introduced so late in the series. Literally the second last chapter in the WHOLE SERIES! She seems like cool gal and I would love to see her personality and the friendship between her and Olive. :(

Sorry for all the caps

This series was very disappointing. It had a promising start, but failed to really develop much beyond the first two novels.

Spoiler In the very last pages of the series, Olive seems to grow into herself, gains the courage to make friends, and a possible parallel is drawn between Elsewhere and the experiences and lessons readers can gain through the fantasy world of novels. As the story doesn't really build up to these conclusions, however, these things felt like they were simply tacked on at the end.

While West clearly has a way with words (vivid descriptions, especially), suspense building, and satisfactory/comforting story endings, I feel that she struggles with character development and repetition.

Secrecy and trust were huge themes throughout the series and yet Olive never learned her lesson in the end. Even in this last novel, she still manages to doubt the cats when things go wrong. The plot was very repetitive and not very well developed for a five novel series. It feels like West couldn't get away from the creative idea of paintings long enough to really add much depth to the series.

Though the series felt flat throughout, there were little glimpses of an idea that could have been interesting. For example, I wish that she had run with the idea of (it's) still life and used it to have Olive gradually mature over the five books.

(She almost dies at least 5 times--for crying out loud--and still manages to learn nothing!)

A satisfying ending to this five-book series

This book is also part of a series, the last one to be exact. But it is also self explanatory somewhat. But this book could have used more details and explanation on some things. Good story though.
