Another solid novel in the avatar universe! I definitely liked The Rise of Kyoshi more than this one. The pacing here was kind of off. The Fire Nation plot didn’t fully work for me. I wanted to spend more time on basically every aspect of the story. And yet I still really really enjoyed it. I love Kyoshi. I love Rangi. I really like the side characters. The expansions to bending lore were excellent, as were the exploration of the role of the avatar and Kyoshi’s interactions with Kuruk and Yangchen. Even though this book didn’t grab me as much as the previous one, I still think both are very much worth reading. Plus they’re sapphic!

The perfect continuation for the kyoshi series. I honestly couldnt hope for a bettwr book. I love Kyoshi, I love her story, i love her team  i have no words.
Knowing more about the past of yhe world and about how the actions in this books impact the world we know from ATLA is amazing, and i loved leaening about kuruk and his companions. The only thing that would make it better is more opera flying company, and more books in the series.
Kyoshi is my tall girlfriend and i love her.

I am OBSESSED with this series and how young Kyoshi is brought beautifully to light in them. She is queer, anarchist, and still learning. She makes mistakes in this one but each part of the journey helps her grow into the formidable Avatar we know and love. Now, why are there only 2 books?! I know these are young adult books but I'm ready to see Kyoshi through her whole adult life!!
