I still love this book after this most recent re-read years and years later. It was the perfect beginning to entice young kids into reading.
I am glad, though, that the Erins stopped writing out the cat’s sounds (like when Rusty/Firepaw attacked Graypaw, the guff-ow’s and stuff like that) because that felt too juvenile and was cringey to read. The feel of the Clan also feels a lot more formal than the friendly, kinship, warm feeling from the recent books, and it’s not just because Tigerclaw was still around.
I also am critical of Firepaw’s feelings toward Spottedleaf. Sure, she’s pretty. But you BARELY SPOKE MORE THAN 6 WORDS TO HER YOU ARE NOT IN LOVE. This continues to irritate me throughout the series despite liking Spottedleaf’s character. This re-read also reminded me how much I love Graypaw/stripe.

Overall, is a great read. Doesn’t hold up quite as well after re-reads, but is still worthy.

Yet again I have finished this book. Yet again I am sad it is over. Yet again I get to enjoy this series in its entirety. Leaping over dead trees, fighting corrupt cats, hunting for the clan. All will be enjoyed again

A good introduction to the series as any other. Definitely a nostalgia trip for me. I really like the intention behind the lore and world-building, you really feel like it’s a story from a cat’s perspective.

Not as good as I remember from my childhood, but that's to be expected. It really picks up in the second half. It was fun meeting young cats and remembering what their future holds! I think for an adult reader, it really toes the line between exciting and frustrating.

Yellowfang's still great though.
