The synopsis on the book is very spot on so I won't regurgitate it. Yes, at it's core, this is a book about vampires, but I think the term vampire does it a grave disservice. When I think vampires, I think all the typical tropes, but these vampires (specifically Good Stab) are nothing like that, other than the blood drinking. The horror is real as far as the original massacre the revenge plot is based upon and for me, that makes it all the more horrifying. I loved all the characters, including the cats and really devoured this book. I don't know if it's my favorite SGJ, but I did really love it. Seriously, if you're a horror reader and you're not reading Stephen Graham Jones, I might say you're not so much a horror reader.

Too violent, too gross, choppy incomprehensible writing and characters I couldn’t care about no matter how hard I tried. So disappointing.

I don’t know how people can get through this tome. It honestly gave me flashbacks to high school reading assignments that were uninteresting solely due to their superfluousness, but that you knew MUST be good somewhere beneath it all. 2 stars for the representation and cool gore. I tried.
