A sprawling tale of friendship and all that it entails, following the lives of Jules, Ash, and Ethan from their teens through their early 50's. The last line of the book encapsulates the overall momentum of the narrative, describing the world as "an animated sequence of longing and envy and self-hatred and grandiosity and failure and success, a strange and endless cartoon loop that you couldn't stop watching, because, despite all you knew by now, it was still so interesting."
But don't let knowing the last sentence stop you from reading all that comes before... the characters truly are some "interestings" you'll be happy that you met.

This book wasn’t for me. I think it was very well written and probably would appeal to people who enjoy literary classics, but I found it depressing and didn’t much like the characters. I stopped because I realized I didn’t care what happened to the characters.

As I reflect on this book, it seemed to me, the lovechild of a (far less traumatic) [b:A Little Life|22822858|A Little Life|Hanya Yanagihara|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1446469353l/22822858._SY75_.jpg|42375710] and [b:The Immortalists|30288282|The Immortalists|Chloe Benjamin|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1493015963l/30288282._SY75_.jpg|50766250]. The story jumps around and the pace is variable- some parts flew by and others draggggggged. The characters are frustrating, but part of me still cared to see how it all came together.
