The characters and plot of this book are quite messy, but it was beautifully written and very honest. The story had so many layers, between the main characters’ struggles with addiction, her identity, her family, and her love life. Each layer and the ways that they intertwined were treated with great care.

"I was spending most days watching SpongeBob SquarePants, reading novels about unlikable women behaving badly, and masturbating into a vegetative state." Does this describe the entire genre of books I like? Lol. I really enjoyed how this book dealt with complex relationships women have with their female family members and their friends. The FMC spends a majority of her twenties running from her trauma, but eventually learns to confront it, including generational trauma, making this an esoteric novel for women who have been through some shit.
