The Taste Beneath

By Daniel Munro

Synopsis:
It’s five years since the Fast War. Some have escaped, many not. Ryan belongs to a commune of survivors, taking refugee to an abandoned vineyard. When a neighbour long community is attacked, uncertainty reaches Penbrook. What will Ryan do to keep his friends and family safe?

My opinion:
Well well well, we have a winner here!
This is proof that it’s worth to step out of your comfort zone every once in a while. Second time this month that it was worth “taking a risk”.  I usually stay far (far!) away from all things war and post apocalyptic. Don’t even think about adding zombies… (luckily there were none). Anyway, enough babbling. Now let’s see…

THIS BOOK IS BRILLIANT. Some of the themes and scenarios were super bold  in many ways, especially if you consider the times we live in, but I won’t. I enjoyed that boundaries were crossed and possibilities explored. Even more I liked the sense of family and protectiveness. This was written in a truly clever way and well paced.

I truly, truly enjoyed this book. Ryan was a fabulous main character and for me, the story was fresh and original (alas, it’s a new genre for me, but take my word when I say this was a brilliant book).
