Informational. I'm not sure if it was the narrator or not, but the book was very dry. I frequently lost focus listening to this. Did offer a lot of information and some perspective on welfare and the lives of very poor areas of the US.

A Bleak look at the poorest of the poor living in the united states.  It tracks a few families struggles and the recourses the have access to and lack access too.  There struggles that keep them poor and make it almost impossible to escape such a stark level of poverty.  There was a good job in explaining us policy's that effect the poor and the short falls of such programs along with why they were implemented. Its a heart breaking yet informing read.  It was surprising to see how hopeful those struggling to have a place to live and lacking food to eat are despite there circumstances. It shows how hard they work to improve there situation in a  system that is set against them.
