Agustina Bazterrica does a great job of conveying how a post apocalyptic world looks like where cannibalism has become legalized and humans treat each other like a meal. Though I'm not a fan of gore, the imagery and grotesqueness throughout the book did not bother me as much as I thought it would. If anything, what bothered me more was how the people were treated who were used as food. The constant apathy and coldness between the characters and others is disheartening, but I feel an accurate representation of what things would look like in that world. Bazterrica's world building and narrative are quite good, although, based on how the book progressed, I thought the ending would be more disturbing. I give the book a 9/10 because I felt it could have been longer, more aspects could have been explored between the main character and his sister and wife. Also, I'm not a huge fan of the gore genre in particular. It's a great book, and I would recommend it to most people.

A story marketed as a cannibal horror story, that is really about the cruelty of dehumanization.
