Spoilers:
This book was so incredibly slow in the beginning. I swear literally not a single thing happened for like 200 pages. There were little things but we could have wrapped it up in like 50 pages before getting to the main point. This was literally "Don't Let Her Stay" in a different font. Less gaslighting thought.

Basically, Lizzy and Jeff, the in-laws, were crazy and being really weird and it made Elliot start to lose his mind. I mean not much happened in the beginning but at the end, the author threw every plot twist that he could.

You were supposed to think that Lizzy and Jeff murdered Chloe's boyfriend and also other people and tied this woman up, I'm not really sure. But then, Gemma was supposed to look bad because she knew her parents were looking for somewhere to stay before she even married Elliot. There was also the brother Stuart who kinda didn't add anything to the plot. Somehow in the end the real reason that Gemma married Elliot was because she liked his house and knew he was a chemist so she thought is she could make him mad enough about her parents then he would help kill them. In the end, he went through with it and killed the parents. Stuart tried to call the police and blame Elliot for it but then Stuart ended up getting killed and then he and Gemma were left to figure out the aftermath. Chloe showed up and helped them with the plan to cover it up by burning down the house. Gemma went into the fire, and everyone died. After all of this, Chloe was actually the one that was the killer.

Kinda not shocked, but also there were so many twists it only made sense.

This book was amazing. I had never read anything by Mark Edwards before, and was thoroughly impressed. The end of every single chapter is a cliffhanger, and I finished it in under 24 hours because I truly could not put it down. I then loaned the book to a friend who returned it to me after finishing it two days later, and we raved about it so much that a mutual friend who doesn’t even read picked up a copy and loved it. 10/10

That twist at the end… was wild. Did not see that coming at all.

I enjoyed this novel and the interesting plot. The problem for me is that it was entirely predictable.

From about a third of the way in I had worked out who had done it and even some of the twists and turns along the way.

This gets 3 stars from me.
