Review for Red Witch by Louisa Bacio

A sexy, short paranormal story the could easily be expanded at any point in the future.

Lawyer Justine is trying to find a way to save her home, heal her mother, and be the responsible person her community needs in the face of some developer attempting to steal their homes.

Enter the protector, Lucas, a vampire who has always watched over the small community and the residents, but will need Justine’s help to make things right. And she’s more than just a savior, she’s his mate and a witch with untold power.

This is a quick read, with a nice splash of interesting main characters and side characters. The vampirism is explained well and Lucas comes across as every inch the appealing vamp. I liked the underlying plot, but I wish this story had been a bit longer. I longed for more details around Justine's abilities, their origin, and what more she's capable of.

There is a surprise twist, one I never guessed would happen. Fans of the genre and vampires, in general, will enjoy this quick read.

So far I have read Reigning Magicks by JJ King and Candace Osmond. Ashlynn is an independent and self-assured Irish princess in the 1700’s who wants nothing more than to lead her people as the heir to her parent’s throne but a marriage betrothal to the son of a Scottish clan threatens the future she desires. Cian is a calm and level-headed young man living in 2018. He is the eldest son of a clan of travelers and will do his duty to marry the daughter of another clan to unite them. Even if he believes the match to be a mistake. Three hundred years separates them until the Princess makes a wish to find a way to bring peace to her people without having to marry the Scot, Brigacos. The wish brings her to Cian but can they together find a way to get Ashlynn back to her people and give them both what they want: a way out of the arranged marriage their parents have made?

I really loved reading this story. Ashlynn isn’t your typical meek and mild princess who will follow her parent’s orders. She wants to rule her people, to lead and to be happy in the life she chooses, not the one chosen for her. It was interesting to read her character as she learned what happened after she disappeared and try to find a way back. The chemistry between Ashlynn and Cian was evident from their first meeting but it was nice to read their reluctance and questioning of the connection as opposed to throwing them together from the beginning. Cian is her white knight, so to speak, who wants to help her however he can, even if it means he goes against his heart and has to let her go. I recommend this book to anyone that would like a love story that includes a feisty princess, a charming young man, and a choice between what is chosen for them and what they really desire.

This book has a sequel titled Dark Magicks and I will definitely pick this up too!

I read Queen Witch by Elle Middaugh and Reigning Magicks by JJ King and Candace Osmond.
I really enjoyed them both. They were captivating from the very first page. So full of adventure and excitement! I can’t wait to read the rest of the stories.
I also read Mermaid Queen by Anna Santos. It’s an amazing Little Mermaid retelling. I really loved this adult version. It grabbed my attention from the first page. While most of the story was predictable, I still loved the unique aspects that the author added

For Queen Witch by Elle Middaugh
Eliza and her sisters are participating in the Queen Witch Trials, which everyone assumed her elder sister Nerissa would win. However the competition soon heats up when Eliza realises that she (or one of her other sisters) need to beat Nerissa for the Queen Witch crown.

Queen Witch is wonderful start to this new series, which I absolutely loved. It was action packed and through each trial more was revealed about each character and Eliza’s own magic. I’m looking forward to the next book in The Queen Witch Trials series.
