This was kind of giving CSI vibes - found it interesting.

Personally, I'd just have liked to see what would have happened if Tayrn hadn't died because she was a force of nature but...oh well

There were so many things that made me stop reading this book. The most pressing was what another reviewer wrote, this book includes a student/professor relationship with an English prof cowritten by an assistant English prof at the university described in the book. It's also not his first student/teacher plot which clarified a lot of the teacher character acting inappropriately and then being worried about being sacrificed to "political correctness."

All of the characters in the "before" sections act like they are in high school, not college. I can't imagine anyone caring about what's likely a gen ed enough to make audibly rude comments in a class of 15.

Other than that the very obvious conservative comments about "young people not respecting police" and the main character accusing a Title IX officer at her university of being "everything wrong with the me too movement"
when the Prof she's defending actively is having sexual thoughts about her and did not report a male colleague who make incredibly explicit comments about women's looks and called the main character a wet dream which GROSS
The main cop character's descriptions of her body border on fatphobia and generally body image issues/body hatred is pretty common in her chapters.

While the story was mildly engaging at first, there were a lot of small things that made me question the direction this book was going in and finding out the parallels between the co-author and the pining professor really sealed the deal for me not finishing this book.

Very well written. The characters really come to life. In the last third, however, the storyline becomes slightly predictable. You still want to find out how it all ends, though.
